Thanks to E20 vehicle excise tax cuts as well as lower E20 price, which is Bt6 per liter lower
than unleaded 95 gasoline, helped drive up passenger car sales in Thailand to 110,419 units
in the first six months of the year, up 32.4 per cent compared to the same period last year,
according to figures from the Automotive Industry Group, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). |

Market share of passenger cars is now 34.35 per cent, up from 28.50 per cent last year.
Surapong Paisitpatanapong, the Group’s spokesman, said that for 1-ton pickup trucks,
which enjoyed growth earlier this year, saw sales falling starting in May due to higher
diesel fuel prices.
“In June, pickup sales were down 23.2 per cent compared to the same month in 2007,” he
said.
Six-month pickup sales reached 181,888 units, down 0.7
per cent compared to the same
period last year.
Meanwhile, market share of 1-ton pickup trucks from January to June has fallen from 62.64 per
cent in 2007 to just 56.5 per cent this year. |
