Analyzing The Impact Of India’s Budget 2013

India’s Finance Minister P Chidambaram raised duties for SUVs and fully imported luxury cars in his Budget 2013, much to the chagrin of the automotive industry. Excise duties for utility vehicles (SUVs and MPVs) were increased from 27% to 30%, excluding vehicles that are registered as taxis. The government has defined utility vehicles to be over four meters in length, have engine capacity exceeding 2.5L and a ground clearance of at least 170 mm.
