Business: Perodua unveils new corporate identity

Malaysia’s leading compact car maker, Perodua unveiled its new corporate identity,
aimed at strengthening its position as the leading compact car manufacturer.

The re-branding exercise will help the group gear up for the new challenges in the
automotive industry in a more liberalised market by making its brand more visible to
the public and equating it with the promise of high quality and pleasant driving experience.

This exercise, held in conjunction with Perodua’s 15th anniversary, is part of the hgroup’s
continuous effort to improve its products and services while responding to the ever-changing
needs of the market for more fuel-efficient car.

According to Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, chairman of Perodua, “We are focusing on building a
strong corporate brand that is closely aligned with the needs of the Malaysian customers. We
owe our success to the support from our customers and we remain committed to their continuing satisfaction and progress.”

This initiative is driven by the brand vision “Fresh Thinking To Move Malaysia” which means
employing the best people, processes and technology to build a world of value into Perodua
cars.

The new Perodua corporate identity comes with a brand statement “Building Cars, People
First”.
This statement reflects the essence of Perodua as it stresses on the importance of
the human element in driving the group forward.

Tans Sri Asmat Kamaludin further added that “the people factor has always been an integral part
of Perodua as our products have helped many realize their dreams. At Perodua, our employees and
partners are key elements of our identity as their ideas and enthusiasm are the main contributors
to our development over the years and most of all, Perodua has always been customer-centric in
developing cars that people want and need.”

The re-branding also entailed a new look for the Perodua logo, which has been re-shaped with
a jewel-like finishing. The word “PERODUA” is now presented in a new exclusive logotype.

New Model: Mitsubishi launches new Triton

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MMM) does not foresee sales impacted by higher petrol
prices in view of the launch of its fuel efficient vehicles, said its chief executive officer Keizo
Ono.

He said this following the launch of two new variants of its top-selling pick-up truck Triton, the
Triton 3.2 and Triton Lite. The 4x4 Triton 3.2 automatic and Triton Lite 2.5L manual is priced at RM97,041 and RM58,129.80, respectively, on the road without insurance.

“In view of current rising petrol and diesel prices, the timely launch of the Triton Lite will meet
the market’s demand for a fuel efficient vehicle. The Triton Lite is light on your wallet and even
lighter on fuel, thanks to its affordable price tag and good fuel efficiency,” he said after the launch.

Ono said a temporary and near-term impact was expected, but sales would eventually return to normalcy as “the fuel hike would not affect our car sale much”.

MMM is targeting to sell at least 500 units of the two variants every month.

MMM last year saw year-on-year pick-up sales growth of 59.6%, with a total of 3,480 units of
L200 and Triton sold. The growth made its pick-ups the second most popular in the country with
a 15.7% share of the segment last year.

The Malaysian government recently hiked petrol prices by almost 41 per cent to RM2.70

previously.

New Model: Perodua Launches Nautica 4WD

The Nautica 4WD represents a new generation of sleek and compact Sports Utility
Vehicle

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) continues again the national SUV legacy when
it launched its latest model, the Perodua Nautica 4WD. The Perodua Nautica 4WD was officially launched by Perodua’s Chairman, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Asmat Kamaludin at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The name ‘Nautica’ is derived from the word ‘nautical’ which relates to sailing or yachting,
conjuring images of luxurious and stylish adventures with unlimited boundaries.

The tagline “The Ideal 4WD” represents a new generation of sleek and compact Sports Utility
Vehicle
, developed with full-time 4WD functions. Ground clearance is 190mm, which makes the
Nautica 4WD very suitable for rough road conditions.

The Perodua Nautica 4WD, equipped with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder DOHC, 16-valve with DVVT
engine and 4-speed Automatic Transmission, is set to capture a niche market outside of Perodua’s mainstream domain.

With an engine that delivers 80kW of power at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at 4,400rpm,
the new Nautica 4WD comes with a four-speed automatic transmission, which translated to
the road means a smoother transfer of power to the wheels through better-matched gear
ratios, and better fuel economy.

The engine is a 16-valve 1.5-litre DOHC (double overhead camshaft) DVVT power plant adapted
from the Daihatsu/Toyota family of engines. A DOHC configuration develops more absolute horsepower, but that only happens if you gun the engine to higher revolutions.

Interior space is good, with plenty of legroom for all. In typical SUV spirit, the seats split, fold,
and tumble in various combinations to offer versatility in transporting large and bulky items.
The brakes are noticeably large, but are solid discs in the front and large drums at the rear.

With a kerb weight of 1,200kg, and a final drive ratio that gives an approximate speed of
100kph at 3,500rpm, its fuel consumption is expected to be close to what the Daihatsu/Toyota
1.5 DVVT gets, although we shall have to wait for a road test to check this out.

In terms of looks, the new Nautica 4WD is revolutionary, with a bold, new attractive-looking
front. Shape-wise, it looks exciting enough to move the young and the young at heart. The
Perodua Nautica 4WD is an alternative for drivers who are thinking of progressing from
conventional sedans and hatchbacks to a different body type such as a 4WD.

Perodua forecasts a monthly sales volume of 100 units, and at an asking price that is quite reasonable, we will see more and more of these vehicles on the road.

For those who hanker for a Toyota Rav4, a Ford Escape or a Honda CRV but don’t want to pay
a sen above RM100k, can now consider the newly-launched Perodua Nautica 4WD. The Perodua Nautica 4WD comes in two classical colours – Medallion Grey and Majestic Black.

The indicative price is RM89,900,-. Overall, the Nautica 4WD is a nicer-looking vehicle, younger
in character and more up-market in styling. All things said, the Nautica 4WD will find itself a
place in the hearts and pocketbooks of many Malaysians.

Perodua or Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd started operations way back in 1993 as the
second national car manufacturer and distributor. Since its humble beginnings, it has grown
over the years to be a major force in the local automotive industry.

The Perodua Nautica 4WD is the company’s 8th model, is a cleverly designed vehicle introduced
as the replacement model to the Kembara.
