Interview (July 2008)
An industry for the future
|
| |
The year has to expire and yet the investment strategy of Thailand which set its sights on a
3-5 target of attracting foreign direct investment of Bt3 trillion has felt the tremors of political repercussion; via an angry mob gathering at Ratchadumnoen Avenue which has not weaned
off its efforts in driving out the government.

To put things into perspective, official statistics of foreign investment applying for Board of Investment (BoI) privileges in the first half of 2008 has not improved on last year's figures during the same period.
The Ministry of Industry (MoI) led by Suwit Khunkitti is putting up a fight with the entire battalion by implementing new measures that emphasize on intellectual products for the future of the industrial sector. And this naturally includes the future of the automotive industry. The MoI
has given top priority to the automobile as a key ingredient in solving the problems of the energy crisis. In addition, efforts are being made to transform Thailand into an
export hub for passenger cars. |
