Bhayangkara International Offroad 2012
In conjunction with the 66th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Police Force, the Indonesia Offroad Federation in cooperation with Polres Tanah Bumbu organised the Bhayangkara International Offroad 1st 2012 with participants from England, Malaysia, U.S.A and host nation Indonesia with local Kalimantan Selatan competitors making up the majority. A total of 92 competitors registered to participate in this highest ever prize-monied event.
This is also the first time any event have announced the highest priced award for an event of this nature with the pool of prizes totaling IDRp1,000,000,000,- (US$100,000,-). The First overall winner will take home a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Dakar; second overall will take home a Mitsubishi Triton Double-Cab; while third overall will take home a Mitsubishi Triton Extended-Cab and a further four Kawasaki KLX motorcycles, two Suzuki bikes, three Poligon bicycles, one Mototrack ATV and a set of Mud Terrain tyres among others for the remaining top-ten winners.
Administrative and technical scutiny of vehicles were done at the Polres Tanah Bumbu where we followed the proceedings followed by pre-event briefing later with the attendance of the Regency Head of Tanah Bumbu, the Deputy Chief Police of Indonesia also as Head of the country’s ASN and Chief Police of Tanah Bumbu.
Ceremonial procedures before the official start and flag-off followed by a convoy rolling start were staged the next day by the Deputy Police Chief Of Indonesia.
The competitors then convoyed to Me¬ranti Mountain Trail which were timed and manned by PRCs. This is where problems started to creep in. Due to the extreme nature of the trail and followed by persistent rain make for difficult passage of cars where only a couple of hours were allocated for the passage. Time passed by and only a trickle of cars were through the difficult trail after lunch time and were lined-up for the competitive sections or SCS at Kodeco Golf Course.
The event director then decided all the three SCS for the day were cancelled (even though 3 cars had already passed through the first SCS) to allow time for the more than 60 remaining crews that were still stucked in the mountain trail. So there’ll be no competition for this first day of the event, but until night-fall only a handful of competitors were through down the mountain trail. The last one down was reported at 03:30 the next morning. This shows the precurser to the extreme nature of the event.
